Notary

Notary Public

A person with a special permission from the state government to put an official stamp on a document that shows that your signature is legal. All banks and credit unions have a person on staff that is able to stamp your documents. They witness you signing a paper, and then they put a stamp on the document and sign it. Many times in legal situations this stamp is required to show that you signed the document with an official witness present. If someone says that they require a notarized document, go to a bank or credit union and ask for a notary public. Sometimes this is free; sometimes it cost a small amount, such as $5.
