You will need either a Social Security Number (SSN) or an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) to be eligible for employment in the U.S. This number will be your main identification number and you will be asked for this number to open a bank account, get a driver’s license and many other things. With a social security number you will recive a card with the number and your full name. It is important to keep this number (and your card) safe and be careful not to give this number out to just anyone. Try to memorize your number if possible, and do not carry your social security card around with you.
You can find the Social Security office closest to yiou by calling 1.800.772.1213 or using the website as www.ssa.gov. You will need your zip code (postal code), the 5 or 9-digit number which comes after the state in your address.
The Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) is used on tax forms for dependents that do not have a Social Security number. You can also do a Google search for ITIN and find the form online.
Once the form is complete, it then can be given to local acceptance agents. A list of those agents and their contact information is: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/acceptance-agents-iowa
